Introduction

Over the last 18 years I have worked on a variety of software and teaching projects. In most of my projects I have either taken a team lead role or a technical architect role. In my teaching projects I was the lead facilitator or lead researcher. I am now working toward my Masters of Education in Information Technology. My experience in this masters program has begun to influence my projects. The main themes of my projects are Instructional Design, teaching technical subjects to non-technical people and Critical Pedagogy.

Current - 2008

Commonwealth Computer Navigator's Certificate (CCNC) - To be lead Instructional Designer for two modules within the CCNC project being initiated by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), hosted by the WikiEducator education for development portal and supported by UNESCO. WikiEducator is a community project working collaboratively with the Free Culture Movement towards a free version of the education curriculum by 2015.

Project Portfolio Management - During a rigorous procurement process I took the role of end-to-end architect where I was responsible for liaising with the vendors senior technical staff and for acting as technical advocate for the key internal stakeholders. The procurement process included the assessment of eight vendors, short listed to three with the inclusion of an incumbent evaluation. The two phase procurement process concluded with my writing a comprehensive candidate solution architecture to provide architectural guidance to the implementation team.

Critical Technology - this is a blog dedicated to encouraging the new and emerging educational technologies through the educational theory of Critical Pedagogy.

Past - thru 2007

2007: Personal Knowledge Management - I'm exploring the building of a Personal Knowledge Management System upon Open Source and Web 2.0 technologies. As a systems architect I often find myself exploring new technologies, business models and approaches. I often use concept maps to make sense of the complexity within the union of these three subjects. I have also found the need for concept maps to make reference to existing information artifacts and to be shared within a socio-constructivist realm. This project will explore all these ideas.

2007: Agile Instructional Design - This project is putting together an instructional design methodology influenced by Agile software methods and other paradigm shifts. Current items of interest for this project are;

2007: Instructional Design - I built a series of workshops to help faculty better understand the use of technology in teaching. The workshops focus on the pedagogical approaches to educational blogging, podcasting, wikis, tagging and the Web 2.0. These are very constructivist workshops where the participants learn by doing.

2006: Community Knowledge Management for Development (CKM4D) - I'm writing a paper that investigates the use of knowledge management (KM) strategies combined with information and communication technologies (ICT) to create a low-cost approach to creating a community learning system for capturing indigenous knowledge in developing communities.

2006: Docudance Pushing the edge of Web 2.0 in building this website for Louise Moyes. The site bakes in the social software of flickr, blogger and google calendar. It is amazing how you can consume other software features over the web.

2005: Protexis Inc. Three major releases in nine months. Introduction of Agile methodologies for increased team effectiveness and project delivery. Visual Studio 6.0 / Visual Basic to Visual Studio .NET and .NET 2.0 platform migration.

2004: Fincentric Corp. Provided system architectural leadership for internet based banking and wealth management. Co-authored corporate technology strategy documents and a five-year technology roadmap.
